Brandon Meyer is a former Virginian who has spent much of his life outdoors, from the Blue Ridge Mountains to long-distance trails around the world. He has thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail twice and the Pacific Crest Trail once, and spent more than a decade seeking out remote places on foot, bike, and paddle.
After spending much of his 20s in combat zones — first as a Marine, then as a contractor — he returned to school on the GI Bill and earned a journalism degree from the University of Florida, where he now lectures. He serves as the data editor for a state politics wire service and manages a digital public records warehouse used by more than 1,200 journalists across Florida.
He lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, and is currently attempting to complete the Virginia Nature Triathlon — 1,228 miles of hiking, cycling, and paddling across his home state — in a single continuous push.
